History

The city was founded in 1957 by the Gulf American Land Corporation. The land was purchased by brothers Jack and Leonard Rosen. Their organization planned to build a city with a large number of waterways and canals. To make this possible, the existing undeveloped pasture and marshland was drained and developed. Many roads and canals were then created. Today, the city has approximately 640 kilometers of canals and waterways. These canals provide many properties with direct access to the Gulf of Mexico.

The city as it exists today would probably not exist without the previously mentioned brothers Jack and Leonard Rosen. They were two brothers from Baltimore, more than 1,000 miles away. Cape Coral is located about 190 kilometers from Tampa and about 230 kilometers from Miami, and the city covers an area of nearly 300 square kilometers.

Home Construction

The first homes were built there in 1958. After that, the population grew rapidly. Many of the new residents were wealthy retirees from other U.S. states, especially from the North. Their main reason for moving to the area was to spend retirement in a beautiful environment in a sunny southern part of the United States.
